Sketch 4. Why don't the Roman powers do something?
Narrator: Rome, the power of Rome, controls and dominates the region.
Two Romans meet to discuss a problem.
Legio: Imperial rank. 4,500 men
Cohort Commander: 480 men
Comm. Sir a terrorist is on the loose.
Legio. A terrorist ….. Tiberius Caesar giving you a hard time.
Comm. No…. it’s a real terrorist, uncontrollable, a miserable self harming wretch, runs about naked and cries night and day. Threatens travelers and upsets the wealthy citizens.
Legio. Send in the new cohort.
Comm. I did, it was hopeless.
Legio. What!
Comm. They trussed him up like a packaged pilchard with chains. He just broke the chains.
Legio. Get stronger chains then. Swift execution. Solved.
Comm. The men fled. Not even the gods could control this one.
Legio. Arrh yes Gods, this messiah from Nazareth any more reports.
Comm. No probably wiped out in the storm, nothing but debris,
bodies a few smashed up boats along the coast now.
Legio. He was on the lake in the storm. Obviously not in touch with reality.
Messiah my sainted aunt. What will we get next.
Comm. Pity though we could have put the terrorist against the messiah and see what happened.
Legio. No contest, the terrorist every time.
Comm. Strength and power that’s what counts.
Legio. Strength and power. Rome.
Both: Rome!
